New Member and... CHINESE YAMATOS??

Very pleased to announce the arrival of new member CHARLES MILLER to the family of R/C Yamato owners. Charles is our first member from CHINA where he bought a 1/200 Nichimo Yamato which he plans to build in the coming months.

In adition to himself, Charles brings us exciting news about a club opperating in HONG KONG which devotes every Sunday to sailing Japanese Navy R/C ships and they seem to have at least 2 YAMATOs in their ranks!

With Charles' help, I will be trying to get ahold of these un-recruited Yamato owners soon. Look forward to more news in the coming weeks!

Today I am very happy to announce a new page here at the IYOA. Antony Lineberger of St. Petersburg, Florida officially joins us with his Nichimo 1/200 scale Yamato which is still under construction. New Members and new voyages!

The month of November is starting out big for IYOA with possibly 2 new members joining the ranks and new pictures to share from myself (Barrett Hochhaus) and Curt Stokes.

My Musashi took to the water last Sunday and made for some of the best pictures I have yet taken of her!

Curt Stokes has contributed some fine detailed shots of the insides of his Yamato which I will be adding to the gallery and his personal page in the near future.

On a more important note, we may be welcoming 3 new members with R/C Yamatos soon. 2 of them I found on RCGroups.com, and the third found our website while searching the internet!

The first 2 are Antony Lineberger and a gentleman I know only as Grant who uses the handlename Uboatbuilder on the forum. Grant wants to wait a bit before posting pics, and Antony will be providing the biographical data hopefully soon.

The 3rd individual is known as Bradley Risk (as in the board game???). Anyway, he writes in to say he got a partially built Nichimo Yamato, but needs a copy of the instruction booklet before he can finish her. Maybe those of us with Nichimo kits can contribute??

Anyway, I hope to be getting the data on these members as soon as possible and bring that information to you all!

FINALLY, A SHINANO!!

Craig Nash in Nova Scotia, brings us our first IJN SHINANO! We will be getting more information from Craig in the coming weeks, but I wanted to let everyone know that the 3rd member of the Yamato class has finally made it into the IYOA! Congrats on your progress so far and good luck, Craig!

MUSASHI MAIDEN VOYAGE!!!

After 1 and a half months of construction, the newest member of the IYOA, R.C.S. MUSASHI made her Maiden Voyage on Dobdon Lake in Mesa, AZ!

The voyage began at 10:00am on Sunday, October 1 2006. It lasted until about 11:15. Only 2 rechargable batteries were required, as the Musashi is very miserly.

There were a number of sailboats to share the lake with the "Moose". Dobson Lake is the home of the MMYC boat club after all. Musashi even participated in a rescue mission for one of the sailboats which was snagged on a bouy.

All in all, it was an extremely successful voyage, with no complaints. Nothing went wrong, and the leak in her aft hull was sealed sufficiently. Over the course of future voyages, we will see detail added to the ship, making her a better and bette model. For now though, I am just happy to have a successful start to what should be a long sailing life!

MUSASHI SAILS!!!

A great day for IYOA, Saturday September 23 saw the very first sailing of the new and largest member of the club, the 8-foot 3-inch MUSASHI, built by myself, Barrett Hochhaus, in Scottsdale, AZ USA.

Today's voyage was a trial for the ship and she passed with flying colors! She spent an unprecedented amount of time in the water for her first voyage. More than one hour!

It's almost time to repaint that dot in Arizona on the World Map from blue to red, as I begin the final aesthetic phase of her construction. The Maiden Voyage could take place as early as next weekend, September 30th!

Massey's Musashi arrives/work begins!

Fellow member Massey has recently purchased a Nichimo 1:200 scale Yamato from eBay and is planning to construct it as the Battleship Musashi. Well, it has arrived in his possession, and he is already getting down to business. Good Luck Massey! Hope to see ya in the water soon!

MUSASHI PAINTED!

The hull of the Musashi recieved its paintjob today, September 7 2006. As you can see in the pics above, the hull is lacking in detail, that will be added later. I also installed the aft range finder tower as you can see as well. Hopefully, I will be able to install the machinery this weekend, and she will be ready to sail under her own power!!

MUSASHI SUPERSTRUCTURE CONSTRUCTION PLUGS ON

Today, Labor Day 2006, saw a surge in construction of the superstructure of my MUSASHI, particularly the forward conning tower, with its many odd clusters and balconies. The core od the funnel was also finished today, and when the day's work was done, I was suprised how much she really was looking like the Musashi.
